Overview
An anemia profile is a set of blood tests used to diagnose anemia and its causes. It typically includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC) to check hemoglobin and red blood cell levels, iron studies to assess iron deficiency, and tests for vitamin B12 and folate to identify deficiencies that can cause anemia. These tests help determine the type of anemia and guide appropriate treatment.
Description
The TORCH test is a serological test that detects the presence of antibodies against a panel of 10 infectious agents, including Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella virus, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2, Hepatitis B virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Varicella-zoster virus (VZV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The test measures the levels of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies against these pathogens in a patient’s blood sample. The presence of IgG antibodies indicates past infection, while the presence of IgM antibodies indicates current or recent infection. The TORCH test is typically performed on pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, and patients with suspected infections, to diagnose and manage infections, and to prevent transmission to others.
